The Office of International Relations, IIT Bombay, recently hosted a five-day Global Immersion Program (9th–13th March, 2026), in collaboration with Tohoku University, Japan, welcoming 10 students accompanied by three faculty members to the campus.The program was designed to provide participants with comprehensive exposure to the research, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at IIT Bombay. It commenced with welcome addresses and presentations by Institute leadership, including Prof. Sudarshan Kumar, Dean of International Relations; Prof. P Seshu, Professor-in-Charge of the IIT Bombay-Japan Cell; Prof. S. Kulkarni, Dean of Academic Programmes; Prof. Atul Srivastava, Associate Dean of Students Affairs and faculty leads from the IIT Bombay–Tohoku University Double Doctoral Degree Program. During the visit, the delegation also had a brief meeting and interaction with Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay.

During the week, the visiting students engaged with IIT Bombay faculty across several focus areas, including materials science, robotics, energy and sustainability, disaster mitigation and digital health. The program also included visits to key innovation and research facilities such as Biomedical Engineering and Technology Innovation Centre (BeTIC), the IIT Bombay Research Park, the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), the Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) and the Centre for Excellence in Nanoelectronics, providing participants with first-hand insights into IIT Bombay’s vibrant research and startup ecosystem.

The program concluded with a campus tour, cultural interactions and a Mumbai city visit, further strengthening academic and cultural connections between the two institutions. This Global Immersion Program is the third in the series, which began in March 2025. This reflects the growing partnership between IIT Bombay and Tohoku University, fostering global learning opportunities, academic collaboration and cross-cultural exchange.
