Department Checklist

Recommendations of the Online Semester Committee


 

  1. Set up the Online Support Unit (OSU) with 3-5 faculty and 3-5 TAs who are familiar with many of the issues that may arise for faculty and students. 
  2. Set up the Student Support Unit using DAMP coordinators for UGs and also for PGs. Have separate units for UGs and PGs. Student based orientation. This group should have at least the following responsibilities.
    1. Identify students who are unable to download the course material and provide   course material mailed to t
  3. Reach out to the students with resource issues and give them the option of coming back to the campus. Please communicate the details of such students to Prof Prita Pant (adean.ap@iitb.ac.in), whose committee is addressing all issues associated with bringing students back to the campus.
  4. OSU should set up a MS Teams or any other discussion channel to share experiential information among the  faculty. 
  5. Set up proto studios in the department for use by faculty who may want a central facility. Based on discussions with Professor Sudesh Balan of IDC, we recommend the following equipment 
    1. iMac with Microsoft Office, Quicktime, or a PC with MSOffice or OpenOffice/LibreOffice, Zoom and OBS installed. Additional software that the department uses frequently may also be installed in this machine. 
    2. Possibly a standalone webcam and a lighting source. 
    3. Wacom writing tablet for writing and annotating on slides. 
    4. 4-6 numbers of good quality headsets. 
    5. The setup may also require minor adjustments to furniture, lighting, and backdrop. 
  6. Provide guidelines on instructions to the instructors. 
  7. The  standard  timetable slots will be  followed in the semester. Coordinate with your department’s timetable in-charge and see if some of the lectures can be  moved  to a later time in the day. 
  8. Organise the department orientation to address the concerns to and the students 
  9. Plan on using the lab staff and RAs that may be idle because there would not be any labs in the semester
